About This Item
Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1962 4to (29 cm), front., XIV, 49 pp, 32 plates. Publisher's cloth and dust jacket (dj slightly stained and frayed at extremities, tipped in bookplate). From the blurb: "Jean Pucelle, whose activity and work is the subject of this study, was the founder of a tradition of French, and more particularly of Parisian, miniature painting that lasted a hundred years. In spite, however, of his capital importance in the development of French Medieval Art, this is the first occasion on which Pucelle receives monographic treatment. As a result of a thorough examination of the whole oeuvre in the original, Mrs Morand has been able to draw a new picture of the decisive phase of French fourteenth-century painting and to offer what could be described as the first satisfactory solution of the highly controversial problems relating to Pucelle and his studio."
