About This Item

MacMillan. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1940. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. 0415218233 . NOT the 2000 reprint; this is the scarce first edition, 1st printing of this book published by MacMillan in 1940. Aside from a previous owner's namestamp on the front pastedown, there are no marks of any kind in the book. No dust jacket, but the book has a thick mylar protective cover. Some foxing on the front pastedown and endpaper, perhaps due to a newspaper clipping that was once stored there. The book was published a year before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, but tensions must have been high. Elizabeth Boody Schumpeter writes that anyone who writes a book that says some economic policies pursued by the Japanese have been successful and that the economy is stronger than many believe may be considered part of a "fifth column". Elizabeth Boody Schumpeter writes that anyone who writes a book that says some economic policies pursued by the Japanese have been successful and that the economy is stronger than many believe may be considered part of a "fifth column". She was married to Joseph Alois Schumpeter and edited and completed his monumental History of Economic analysis. The last chapter is a detailed examination of Japan's balance of payments from 1904 to 1931 with two large tables folded into a pocket on the rear pastedown. ; Japanese Economic History, 1930-1960, V. 8; 8.66 X 5.83 X 2.28 inches; 984 pages .
