About This Item

Kristiania: Folkebladets Forlag, 1895. Full Leather. Very Good-/No Jacket. Lithographs, Woodcuts. Norwegian language. Bound in full blindstamped dark brown leather with titles and decorations stamped in gilt and red. Spine in five compartments. Evidently volume five (femte bind) in the full set, but volume two (anden afdelsing) in this particular portion of it; the previous volume must cover the history of Norway up to 1660. Profusely illustrated with lithographs and woodcuts, with a number of color plates, some folding. Decorated endpapers. Paginated from p.1073 to p.2206. Once the property of Professor of Scandinavian Languages at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) Rasmus B. Anderson. The front pastedown carries the gift bookplate from Anderson to the State Historical Scoiety of Wisconsin. It was later deaccessioned and sold in November 1944 (to Norwegian-American collector Herman Gimmestad, although this volume uncharacteristically does not carry his bookplate, but does come from his collection). The leather shows mild edgewear with rubbing at the corners and joints; the headpiece has a small chip. The front hinge is partially cracked, but has not separated enough to show the mull. Rear hinge intact. All contents clean, tight and unmarked, with bright illustrations. Uncommon. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
