London: Simpkin and Marshall, 1858. First Edition. Quarto. As Sowerby noted the work contains 700 figures on 24 plates with each item hand colored each with a printed explanatory leaf, and all with original tissue guards. Orig. gilt & blind stamped red pebbled cloth. On front endpaper is seal of Sowerby's shop and bound in at rear is a leaf of advertisements for Sowerby's natural history supply business. Bound in red embossed cloth lettered in gilt, spine plain, some staining to cloth, corners bumped, contemporary owner's name. A very nice copy.
