Ever since man first discovered that the earth's mineral resources could be exploited for fuel or raw materials there has been an impetus towards finding ever more efficient means of extracting these resources.Until the Industrial Revolution extraction was relatively small scale, but the massive growth of industry in the 19th and 20th centuries, allied with the development of the huge resources in North America and Australia, has seen the production of massive excavators that can strip huge quantities of ore, thereby altering the whole terrain of the landscape. In 'An Illustrated History of Excavators' Hinton J. Sheryn provides a fascinating account of the development of these great machines from their 19th century origins through to the enormous shovels and drag lines of the 1990s.Combined with a superb selection of historic photographs, the book is an excellent portrait of an often-ignored,but still essential, part of the technology developed to sustain the global economy. Since April 2013,again in March 2015,and in this year too,the UK Post Office has altered it's Pricing in Proportion template, altering it's prices, weight allowances, dimensions and lowered it's qualifying compensation rates too!
