About This Item
U.S.A: Vintage Books/Random House, 1999. Paperback. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7. Trade Paperback in Good Condition. Considered by many to be the Nobel Prize-winning playwright's finest work, a work in which he exposes the human need for illusion as an antidote for despair. He used the tragedies of his own life for this depiction of a seedy, skid row saloon in 1912, peopled with society's failures: worn-out anarchists, failed con artists, drifters, whores, pimps, and informers. First copyrighted as an unpublished work in 1940. Black cover with illustration of a scene from the play is clean and unmarked, flares up slightly, solid binding, square. Pages are clean with marking of text and underlining, some in red; after page 40 there are a few pages with underlined words but most marking of text is on the pages before that, not messy. Text remains easy to read. 196 pages. 8 x 5.25 inches. 1999, Vintage, USA
