Full cobalt blue morocco by Bayntun - Reviere (signed on front turn-in). covers bordered with gilt, five raised bands, compartments in gilt, turn-ins ruled in gilt with floral cornerpieces, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Bookplate on front pastedown. Spine uniformly faded to a blue gray, else fine in all respects. The First English Edition, following the U.S. printing in the same year. A fine copy in a very handsome full leather binding.
Synopsis
Of Human Bondage is a novel by W. Somerset Maugham. It is generally agreed to be his masterpiece and to be strongly autobiographical in nature, although Maugham stated, "This is a novel, not an autobiography, though much in it is autobiographical, more is pure invention. " Maugham, who had originally planned to call his novel Beauty from Ashes, finally settled on a title taken from Spinoza's Ethics
