About This Item

Toronto: Clarke, Irwin & Company Limited, 1963. Foreword by Harry halliwell. 'Homebrew and Patches' is a sequel to 'Mostly In Clover'. 'Mostly In Clover' was a sensitive portrait of a young boy growing up in rural Ontario during the 1920's. 'Homebrew and Patches' follow the same boy as he moves from the farm to the comparative sophistication of the continuation school in the nearby small town. For the boy, the growing-up process was complicated by the Great Depression, which brought the "Hungry Thirties" to the farming communities. Mr. Boyle has come to the conclusion that the misery of this time was very much mitigated by the amusing incidents which brightened life on the farm. These amusing incidents are recounted here in an understanding, nostalgic and very moving way. A clean bright book. Edgewear to dust jacket extremities.. First Edition, Second Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. Rural Ontario + Great Depression + Hungry Thirties + Canadiana + Harry Halliwell + Biography + NOISBN. Catalogs: Canadiana.
