About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1951. Bound in the publishers fine weave black cloth with gilt title lettering to spine. Translated from the German by H.T. Lowe - Porter. Index of the principal works of Thomas Mann to the rear of book. Title lettering to spine is sharp and clear. The 336 pages remain in fresh, clean condition throughout and are squarely bound. Top edge dyed maroon and front edge rough cut as published. Book sits solid and square. Housed in the distinctive dustwrapper designed by George Salter with publishers printed price intact on front inside flap. Small chips to head and heel of spine and top edge as is usual with this rather brittle dustwrapper, otherwise very bright and presentable with excellent colour tone. Protected in a removable archival booksleeve to preserve its condition. The photograph provided is a picture of the book and the dustwrapper and we are happy to send more images on request. A bright, attractive copy of this intriguing novel by Thomas Mann.. First Edition. Near Fine/Near Fine.
