Generally recognized as the standard one-volume history of Russia, this monumental work describes Russia's growth from the times of the nomadic tribes to the Cold War & examines the social, religious & cultural as well as the political & economic aspects of Russian civilization.
From Back: Author is a professor emeritus of Russian history at Yale University and co-author of the multi-volume A History of Russia (in progress). Mr. Vernadsky was born in St. Petersburg, attended the University of Moscow, and taught in the Universities of Petrograd, Perm, and Simferopol. In 1927, after seven years as an expatriate in Europe, he joined the Yale University.
