London: Printed by J. Wilde, for H. Rhodes, at the Star, the corner of Bride-lane, Fleet-street, 1693. First Edition in English. Very good; recased with new spine and later endpapers but preserving much of the contemporary blind tooled leather boards which is rather heavily bumped at the corners and edges; former owner name excised from title page with minor loss to text, a few contemprorary notations in the margins, bookplate of Joseph Tasker (whose library was scattered and sold in the 1860s). Nevertheless, a desirable copy.. Intriguing biography of François de la Chaise, a French Jesuit priest, the father confessor of King Louis XIV of France, most well known for his instrumental role in the revocation of the Edict of Nantes.
[12], 192, 241-360, 353-376pp. ESTC R11661. Wing L1052, which has "for Henry Rhodes," in imprint. Wing attributes the work to Eustache Le Noble, however, the BL notes that there is no evidence for this in BL, NUC, or BN. NUC notes attributions to Philibert-Joseph Leroux and Pierre Le Noble.
