Each vol. has an engraved frontis. illustration, protected by tissue guard, opposite and illustrated title page, followed by a printed title page (all title pages dated 1818). Frontis of Vol. I illus."Dorothea bathing her feet" and Vol. II frontis "Sancho resisting the Scullions attack on his beard.". Title of vol I vignette illus. show Don Quixote mounted "The Adventure of the Fulling Mills". Vol. I, xxiv preliminary pages including the Life and Preface. Main text563 p. pages. Vol. II "Contents" and 598 p.pages. In contemporay Brown Full-Leather bindings with 3 shalloe raised bands to spines. Gilt title and vol nos. in 2nd & 3rd compartments, Gilt Floral Design in others and Gilt Decoration on the bands. Narrow Decorative Gilt Border on fronts and backs. Gilt Decoration on board edges. Endpapers and all page edges Marbled. 5 1/4" Tall, 500g. Some edge wear and wear along sides of spines. Fine splits to leather down sides of spine on vol I. Rear hinge sound. Front hinge just holding. HInges sound on vol. II. Title pages on vol I loose, otherwise Text blocks firm. Previous owner's name on printed title page of vol I (old inscription), no other inscriptions. Pages in very good, clean condition. Size: 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall. Full-Leather. Good +. Book.
