Topics in the first portion of this volume include the Scotch-Irish, Quakers, Germans and Virginians, the first settlers in Eastern Ohio, pioneers with some first-hand accounts, early days in Cadiz with a list of original lot owners, Harrison County in 1813 with lists of settlers (by township) and county officials. It also covers the churches of: Beech Spring, Crabapple, Unity, Nottingham, Freeport, Dickerson, Bethel, Rankin, and Ridge; plus early churches of Cadiz. The second portion of this volume contains transcriptions of county land records for the first land owners-complete with full names and dates; early marriage records (1813-1840) with the full names of the bride and groom, the presiding official and the date; burial records-grouped by location; and will abstracts (1813-1860). The final 128 pages of this book are devoted to brief genealogical sketches. A map of Harrison County in 1900, several portraits and illustrations enhance the text. This extensive history "is concerned chiefly with the record of names and events connected with the first thirty years of the century..."
