Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1927. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 1927 FIRST USA EDITION. Original green cloth binding with publisher's emblem blindstamped on front cover, gilt lettering spine. Clean covers, fading to spine with dulling of the gilt lettering on spine no foxing, solid binding, folding map at page 21 miss-folded at first crease causing some crinkling (but no tears), map in rear pocket is fine. From the collection of Larry Swan with his name and address dated 1945 penned to the upper corner of the FFEP otherwise no owner marks or writing on any pages. Swan was a California scientist & climber who was on the first American Makalu expedition in 1954. The book measures 258mm tall x 157mm, and has 280 pages, index, 4 folding maps (one in rear pocket), illustrated EPs. Robert Barret was an American geographer and his wife Catherine was an American author of children's books. They traveled to many remote regions worldwide between 1913 & 1930. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
