Boston: Little, Brown, 1937. First Edition. Octavo. . 454 pages. One of the most fascinating books on the nature of crime books with the following inscription: "to Jeneeve, who was the first one who ever knew (when she was trying to wash my face) that I surely was headed for a life of crime, with deepest love from her brother, Ryley, Courtney Ryley Cooper. Cooper dreamed of the circus and at the age of 16, he left home to join a traveling circus and eventually became a circus clown. He later worked as a reporter, journalist, radio personality and author of over 30 books ranging from biography to crime. His close friend J. Edgar Hoover once said he is "the best informed man on crime in the U. S. Cooper eventually committed suicide. He was found hanging inside a motel's closet. Was it suicide or as some believed.... murder. A very good copy bound in black cloth ruled and lettered in red, spine lettering red. light wear to corners and spine.
