About This Item
London; (1979): Book Club Associates. Octavo. 910 pages, plus [1] page which gives the cartographic notes for map endpapers. Issued as equally scarce in fine condition is the first edition omnibus of Dune. The book is offered in the same sewn binding with the head/tale bands for the publisher's book club member in red cloth with gilt lettering. Dune: Set on the desert planet called Arrakis, the focus of an intricate power struggle in a byzantine interstellar empire. Arrakis is the sole source of Mélange - necessary for interstellar travel and granting psychic powers and longevity, so whoever controls it wields great influence. The troubles begin when stewardship of Arrakis is transferred by the Emperor from the Harkonnen Noble House to House Atreid's. A fine copy bound in red cloth, spine lettering gilt, in a fine pictorial dust jacket without the fading, which is frequent in most copies, hence, a very bright copy.
