Macmillan, Sydney, 2004. Reprint. Softcover. Very Good Condition. Illustrator: Photographic and Maps. Signed by Author. The Hill of Valour, bibliography and acknowledgements. At the beginning of the text there are three maps, one showing the Gallipoli peninsula, second: – the other showing a contemporary map of the Australian and New Zealand positions at Gallipoli and third showing Colonel White's trench diagram showing Russell's top and The Nek. Between pages 178 and 179 there are 16 pages of black-and-white photography. Photographic paperback binding with gilt and black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. "On August 7th 1915, men of the 3rd Light Horse Brigade stage one of the bravest and most futile charges of the First World War. As part of the wider offensive to break out of the Anzac trenchers at Gallipoli they attempted to storm a turkey's position called The Nek. It was a heavily fortified network of trenchers, defended by artillery, machine-guns and thousands of men. To attack it the Light Horse, dismounted and acting as infantry, use nothing but fixed bayonets and raw courage." -- from rear panel blurb. It was a failure and an absolute waste of men! clean copy, no damage to the book, and on the title page there is "to Belinda every best wish John Hamilton" Size: Trade Paperback.
