About This Item

San Francisco: Sufism Reoriented, 1966. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. Uncommon pamphlet collecting various statements advising against the use of hallucinogens by the Indian spiritual leader Meher Baba (1894-1969), an important figure in the 1960s counterculture. Baba warns that LSD and related drugs cannot provide a shortcut to true spiritual awakening, and indeed may only lead one further from such a goal. An interesting counterargument to the view, then prevalent among advocates of psychedelic experimentation, that such substances possess the de facto power of entheogenic revelation. San Francisco: Sufism Reoriented, 1966. First edition. Saddle-stapled in light pink printed self-wrappers, 8-1/4 x 5-1/2 in. 11pp. Light toning and soiling to wraps, a few minor spots of interior soiling. Very good. This copy lacking the cancel slip frequently seen mounted at base of p.6; thus possibly an earlier state.
