About This Item
New York: Harper & Bros, 1884. George Eliot (pseudonym of Mary Anne Evans, 1819-1880) wrote seven novels, of which at least five are significant in the history of English literature. She was a frre-thinker and somewhat scandalous. Her marriage to John Cross, twenty years her junior, lasted only for one year prior to her death. These are Very Good copies of a Later Printing. Three volumes, in green publisher's cloth with gilt lettering and with a facsimile signature on the front cover. Volume One has no publication date, but the other two list 1899 and there is a previous-owner signature from 1901 on the FFEPs. Clean texts; 366, 324, and 340 pages. Volume three is indexed and has four pages of publisher's adverts in the back. The TP of Volume Two has been torn but remains attached. An attractive set; quite readable today.
