Description:
London: W.H. Allen & Co., Limited, 1890. Mrs. F(lorence) Fenwick Miller (1854-1935) was a journalist well-known as what we would today call a feminist. Her biography of Harriet Martineau (1802-1876), who has been called "the first modern sociologist," is a sympathetic one. Martineau was very prominent in the intellectual circles of her day, writing on history, political economy, and children's literature. This is a Near Fine copy of the Third Edition, designated as part of the "Eminent Women Series. Edited by John H. Ingram." Ingram was a prominent editor and biographer, an advocate for the literary reputation of Edgar Poe.There is no publication date, but the First Edition was 1884, and the Second in 1889. Therefore, Quercus assigns a publication date of 1890 as probable. Green cloth binding, with titling on the front cover and spine in gilt. Clean text; x, 224 pages.
