About This Item

UK,slim Qrto HB,no dw/dj,as issued,illustrated,1st edn. VG++.No owner inscrptn, but residual evidence of removal of a label which has lifted two small areas of coloured paper from the colour illustrated front free endpaper, no dw/dj - if issued and - and absence of a published price.Bright,crisp,clean,wrap-around,glossy, yellow background with repeated colour pictorial illustrations by Ivor Wood to each board, with capitalised,black-lettered part-title and other red-lettered sub-title [Paddington] with author+illustrator black-lettered name credits; yellow spine/backstrip with similarly coloured+lettered title as front's but with slight fade to red lettering and publisher's black-lettered name to foot of same, rear panel with repeated illustration as front and a red-lettered synopsis of contents.Negligible shelf-wear,bumping, creasing to edges and corner tips - top corners bumped with some rubbing – but no other major nicks, tears or splits present.Top+fore-edges inevitably aged/toned but without foxing/ spotting; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound – no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips – appears unread, apart from my own collation, coloured illustrated endpapers with aforementioned fault.UK, slim Qrto HB,no dw/dj if issued, illustrated 1st edn,8- 60pp [paginated] includes a cartoon strip,a story and activities; plus [unpaginated] colour illustrated title page, with colour illustrated Paddington letter to its verso,a Contents list/table with childish-hand black ink horizontal lines beside each page number of the list/table extending to the pages' fore-edge - no other scribbles etc noted,a double-page colour world map, and b/w+colour illustrations by Ivor Wood interspersed throughout the book. Visually the exterior appearance is acceptable and even particularly internally,is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation but for the Contents page, and for a book of its near 50 year-old age and nature, i.e. a children's interactive ephemeral book. It is only the faults described that prevents a slightly higher grading overall.Despite the described faults it is still an acceptable example for its cleanliness, brightness and lack of other detracting faults. Games, puzzles, activity features, jokes and quizzes; play Paddington's Great Train Race, make a puppet show, learn to tell fortunes, and to make gingerbread bears.A brand new story and lots of exciting features and Paddington invites all his friends into his world of fun and games. Ivor Sydney Wood (b. 4th May,1932 – d. 13th October, 2004) was a prolific Anglo-French animator, director, producer and writer, and known for his work on children's television series.Born in Leeds to an English father and a French mother, his family moved to the mountains near Lyon,France after WW2,where he was educated. He studied fine art in Paris, and later worked in an advertising agency in Paris, where he was to meet Serge Danot.Together they made the acclaimed French series 'Le Manege enchante' known in English as 'The Magic Roundabout', with Wood as the animator. Following the success of 'The Magic Roundabout'in the UK,Wood partnered with the London-based animation company FilmFair. Wood became both animator and director for a number of FilmFair's animated children's programmes, starting with 'The Herbs' in 1968.During the 1970s,he animated and directed Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings, Hattytown Tales, The Adventures of Parsely, the Wombles and lastly Paddington. Woodland Animations was founded by Ivor Wood and his wife Josiane, specifically to produce stop-motion animated series for the BBC.The company produced a number of programmes, the earliest and most popular of which was Postman Pat (1981-1996), other series included: Gran (1983), Bertha (1985-86) and Charlie Chalk (1988-89).
