Frank Forester's Sporting Scenes and Characters

Nice condition antique set of "Frank Forester's SPORTING SCENES and Characters" - Embracing "The Warwick Woodlands," "My Shooting Box," "The Quorndon Hounds," and "The Deerstalkers" by Henry William Herbert (Frank Forester). 1881; T.B. Peterson & Brothers; Philadelphia. Each volume features two frontispieces (including an engraved portrait of Forester), as well as numerous full-page engraved illustrations by Forester and F.O.C. Darley. Volume I contains a lengthy biographical sketch of Forester. Complete set in two volumes. "With a Life of the Author, a new Introductory Chapter, Frank Forester's Portrait, Autograph, a full length picture of him in shooting costume, and seventeen other illustrations, from original designs by Darley and Frank Forster."

Condition:
Some light soiling to the covers; the red cloth on the spines has somewhat faded. Sharp cover corners. Nice interiors - the pages are clean with only some very light foxing to the tissue papers over the frontispieces. Pages 11 & 13 within volume II each have tiny pencil handwriting in the outer margins. Previous owner's bookplate affixed to each front pastedown. Page 192 in volume II has some crinkling to the paper along the outer edge. Overall the set is in Very Good condition.
