About This Item

1897 Mark Twain 1st/1st Following the Equator Travelogue India Exploration RARE

"A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."

― Mark Twain

Mark Twain and his works were immensely popular all on their own. Such notable characters as Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn stood out above other 19th-century literary characters, and not just in the United States. One of his lesser-known works is a social commentary entitled 'Following the Equator'. This travelogue expresses views of racism, religious intolerances, and social oppressions prevalent in the British Empire.

Synopsis

Following the Equator (American English title) or More Tramps Abroad (English title) is a non-fiction travelogue published by American author Mark Twain in 1897. Twain was practically bankrupt in 1894 due to a failed investment into a "revolutionary" typesetting machine.
