About This Item
Boston: Thomas B. Noonan & Co, 1882. Hardcover. Good. 16mo. [1], 545 pages. Rebound in tan buckram with gilt title on the spine by the National Library Bindery of Atlanta. The original yellow front end paper with inscription written in French is preserved. Inscription (not entirely transcribed here) mentions the name "Estora" and the place "Convent de Bellevue" and the date 1886. Some one changed the inscription date from 1886 to 1896 by writing the number 9 over the still partly visible number 8. The following page has a written note in pencil stating - "Estora Stephens died Sunday Nov. 3, 1889." Provenance from the estate of the Mitchell family in Atlanta, Georgia.
Estora Fitzgerald Stephens was the daughter of Capt. John Stephens and his wife Annie Fitzgerald Stephens. Her sisters included Annie Stephens and Mary Isabel "Maybelle" Stephens mother of Margaret Mitchell. Estora died in her early 20's and is buried at the Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta.
