Boston: Little Brown and Company,, 1939. Inscribed copy, finely bound First US edition. With the author's signed presentation inscription to the binder's front blank "To Mr. A. R. W. Robertson gratefully for kindness received in British Guinea, from C. S. Forester." Octavo. Finely bound by the Chelsea Bindery in dark blue morocco, titles and decoration to spine gilt, raised bands, single rule to boards gilt, twin rule to turn-ins gilt, burgundy endpapers, gilt edges. Some leaves lightly foxed, an excellent copy in a fine binding.
Synopsis
Flying Colours is a Horatio Hornblower novel by C.S. Forester, originally published 1938 as the third in the series, but now eighth by internal chronology. It describes the adventures of Hornblower and his companions escaping from imprisonment in Napoleonic France and returning to England.
