All edges are have general wearing. Both front and back covers have user creases to the spine edges. The spine has minimal wear to the head and foot. Cape Town: Howard Timmins, 1970. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Blue cloth with silver lettering to spine in a simple pictorial dw, black/white plates. Limited edition being number 590 of 1000. The regimental history of the First City of Grahamstown Volunteers. The personal copy/from the library of the Regt.'s Commanding Officer (variously from 1930 - 1946) W. D. Wood's brother. Included are a series of press cuttings, mainly obituaries and a small Christmas card dated 1917 issued by the Royal Flying Corps complete with Cadet Wood's printed name. A rare item and good association copy. Dw is generally quite tatty with some minor loss at head and tail; and a small damp stain to the lower bottom front that extends onto the book itself as a slight stain without any damage.

Signed by Griffiths on the copyright page. A devoted history of the historic Eastern Cape (Grahamstown and Queenstown) regiment. The dustjacket has a clear cellophane protective cover. The dj itself is worn and torn and grubby. It is however resolute and proud. The blue cover is mild with some general ownership wear. The frontispage has a gift inscription (not from the author). Blue cloth boards. xvi + 292pp. illustrated plates, maps. Copy No.110 of 1000. Signed by Author, 13.11.1970. This edition is the first and best, the later paperback does not cover the early years in anything like as much detail. The regimental history covers the Frontier Wars of the Eastern Cape that raged from 1835 to 1853, the Langeberg campaign of 1897 in Bechuanaland, and includes service through World War II. The regiment is housed in Grahamstown, being the successor to the original Graham's Town Volunteers. List of Southern Rhodesian personnel attached (in WW2), Roll of Honour. Included in the book is the original receipt attached to a First City letterhead, and also a card invitation to a 'Special Mess' held on Friday 13th November 1970 to mark the publication of this book.
