Rare volume containing a history of the Clarke School for the Deaf, photographs and alumni information for this school for the deaf which offered high school preparatory and pre-vocational educational tracks. Illustrations on glossy black and white paper. Large section of alumni listings, many with checkmarks beside the name. Forward by editor Williams is an interesting snapshot in time: "For a certainty, fifteen alumni are divorced, though only four openly admitted it. All mention of divorces is accordingly omitted...the question "Are you married?" often provoked from the men the reply, "No, but I am looking for a wife." Affixed to the frontispiece portrait of Webster in Volume I is the stem of a flower taken from Webster's grave in 1891. It's not ofter that you find two original volumes published / printed in 1726. Overall, these titles are in V Good condition and 100% legible ( albeit with Olde English spelling ) The titles are leather bound (spines and corners) with printed board covers.
A previous owner has pasted additional pages at the start of Volume 1 and pasted various newspaper clippings and hand written texts relevant to the themes of Mr Toland dated through the 1800's further enhancing the value of the set.
John Toland (30 November 1670 – 11 March 1722) was an Irish rationalist philosopher and freethinker, and occasional satirist, who wrote numerous books and pamphlets on political philosophy and philosophy of religion. Born in Ireland, he was educated at the universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leiden and and was influenced by the philosophy of John Locke.

First published in 1842, this QUITE SCARCE JACKETED volume presents great Roman tales here retold by Thomas Babington Macaulay (also known as Lord Macaulay).
