About This Item
New York: E.P. Dutton, 1913. Although Sir Henry Maximilian Beerbohm (1872-1956) wrote essays and novels, he is best remembered for his witty caricatures of popular politicians and personalities of the day. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of his fifth book of drawings, the First American Edition. Bright green cloth binding, with one of Max's drawings reproduced and filled with gilt. Forty-eight halftone drawings are tipped onto heavy, stiff brown paper stock; the last two are line drawings on white paper. Some light staining to the front endpapers; corners are bumped, but not badly. The dustwrapper is only partially present, in the guise of its front panel (with the same drawing as on the front panel of the book) and the front flap only. These are held in place with the archival plastic protector. A lovely book, and rather uncommon. Also present are two contemporary newspaper clippings that were at one time laid-in. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. First Edition.. Decorative Cloth. Very Good Plus/Good. Illus. by Max Beerbohm.
