About This Item

Barcelona: Carnets de Peintre, 2007. Limited Edition. Stiff Boards. Fine in Fine Archival Box.. Limited Edition. Stiff Boards. Art Director Gonzalo García Barcha. Silkscreen printed by Taller Vallirana. Handmade paper by Museu Moli. Paperer de Capellades.
Comissioned by art director Gonzalo García to design and produce this artist book from the artist notebook made on the Thopaga Boat around from Farrutx in Balear Islands, and to design and produce this artist book for Carmen Balcells Agencie Carnets de Peintre in Barcelona.
"Barceló bought a former hunting lodge at Cap Farrutx, Majorca, and turned it into his home and workshop.
In order to understand the creative experience of Miquel Barceló, his relationship with nature and material and how he uses them in his work, his evolution in the representation of animals and people, and his journeys, both real and imaginary, we must look to the lights in the bay in front of his workshop at Farrutx.
THOPAGA (summers of 2003 and 2004)
Barceló sailed around the Mediterranean in the Thopaga in the summers of 2003 and 2004. This two-masted, square-rigged schooner, made of pine, was built in 1924.
Considered floating heritage of the Balearic Islands, the Thopaga sank off the French coast in the early hours of 8th July 2008. Refloating the boat is still being studied." [publisher's statement]. Tight, bright, and unmarred. Brown paper boards, silkscreened prints. Oblong 4to. 146pp. Illus. (color and b/w plates). Numbered, limited edition of 99 copies. Signed by the artist.
