First edition of Stanislaw Lem's monograph about science fiction and futurology in which Lem criticizes the Western science fiction. Lem wrote about his work that "[...] this monograph is an expression of my personal utopia: a longing for a better science fiction - one that should exist." as according to his opinion, "Science fiction became a vulgar mythology of technological civilization."
Stanislaw Lem (1921-2006), the author of Solaris, was a Polish science fiction writer, the most celebrated SF author in the Communist world.
