About This Item
Darwin, Australia: Northern Territory University Press, 2002. Facsimile Reprint. Paperback. Very Good. Although Australia has attempted to keep some distance between itself and Asia, as characterised by the White Australia policy, this has not always been the case. This book is the account of the attempt by one of many 18th and 19th century English merchant adventurers - Francis Light of Penang fame, being another - to establish a British colony at Port Essington on the Coburg Peninsula in Australia's Northern Territory. He and others had hoped that with Asian trade and labour the settlement was going to be a new Singapore, adding to the string of British outposts East and South of Penang. Very Good Paperback. Facsimile Reprint with an extensive introduction by Bob Reece. originally published in 1846. 184 pages Weight 0.6kg. Post free within Malaysia There is a small amount of orange residue at one corner of the cover and on the text block below, minimal cover wear and very light spotting of the text block. The binding is tight, the text is clear and there is no tanning throughout.
