Description:
London: Collins. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The complete set of the New Naturalist Monographs in dust jackets, all first editions. NMN 21, The Trout is ex-library (canceled). Some of the dust jackets have minor chipping and some small bits of insect chewing. A complete list of the monographs is available. Overall a near fine set. In 1945, Collins, of St. James Place, London published Butterflies, the first title in the New Naturalist Library, a series of books on British Natural History in iconic dust jackets, with the aim of interesting the general reader in the wildlife of Britain by recapturing the enquiring spirit of the old naturalists. Within a few years, Collins perceived a need to narrow the focus by producing 'New Naturalist Special Volumes' with each title devoted to a single species and thus was born the New Naturalist Monographs. Twenty-two monographs were published, beginning with The Badger in 1948 and ending with The Mole in 1971.

London: Collins,, 1936. The poetry of fire, the mystery of trees, the marvels of trout fishing First edition, first impression, scarce presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the title page, "N.H.H-B. One book as a small token of gratitude for very many fried eggs. T.H.W.". England Have My Bones documents White's experiences and adventures between March 1934 and March 1935, when, while "residing in the countryside of Britain and Scotland, he began keeping a diary to record the unique delights and constant surprises which a city dweller happens upon when he leaves the world behind". It was compared at the time to works such as Izaak Walton's Compleat Angler. Octavo. Original black boards, titles to spine in white. With dust jacket. Spine slightly faded, partial tanning to endpapers, spotting to edges and to some early leaves; a very good copy in the price-clipped jacket with chipped ends and corners, loss to the foot and tape repair to the head.

London: Collins Crime Club, [1941]., 1941. First edition. First edition. The Dark Page says, "Anthony Gilbert was born Lucy Beatrice Malleson in 1899 and was an English author of novels and short stories. Although her mother wanted her to be a schoolteacher, Ms. Malleson succeeded in fulfilling her own ambition and became a novelist. After seeing John Willard's play, THE CAT AND THE CANARY in 1922 she became thriller-concious, and in 1927 published her first mystery as Anthony Gilbert. For many years Gilbert's true identity was kept secret and most readers assumed that the author was a man." Some color fading to top edges of the cloth, else near fine in price-clipped, lightly professionally restored dust jacket at head of spine, and lightly sunned on the spine. Julia Ross secures employment through an employment agency with a wealthy widow, Mrs. Hughes, and goes to live at her house. Two days later, she awakens in a different house in different clothes and with a new identity. She…
