About This Item
[New York, Published by James Eastburn, 1812]. Caption title. Dated on page 3: New York, 23d Dec., 1812. "The Edinburgh Review" and "The Quarterly Review," both influential, were re-published in New York by Ezra Sargeant. Upon Sargeant's death (June 24, 1812) James Eastburn took over his business and ran it for the benefit of Sargeant's widow and children. On Feb. 5, 1813, Eastburn formed the firm of Eastburn, Kirk & Co. This prospectus contains testimonials from New Englanders and southerners as well as New Yorkers-- including DeWitt Clinton, Rufus King, J. H. Hobart, John Lowell, Josiah Quincy, John T. Kirland-- supporting the value of an American reprint. Shaw-Shoemaker, American Imprints 25320, lists only the MWA copy. The AAS regards this as an entity and catalogues it as such but copies were undoubtedly inserted in Eastburn publications. Soft Cover. [1], 2-7 pages; 22 cm. Disbound; very good. Stock#OB711.
