About This Item
[NIELSEN, Kay]. East of the Sun and West of the Moon. Old Tales from the North. Illustrated by Kay Nielsen. London: Hodder and Stoughton (ca. 1930). 8vo, 285pp. Yellow boards pictorially stamped in black and light blue. 24 hand-mounted color plates. Spine ends a bit rubbed, corners lightly bumped, covers slightly soiled, endpapers a bit discolored, else an internally clean, tight copy with all plates fine and bright.
Early edition (circa 1930, having a git inscription to a former owner dated "Christmas 1930" on the blank front free endpaper). A monumental work of art illustration, one of just five books illustrated by the incredible Kay Nielsen and often cited as his most important work. The unique Art Nouveau illustrations are certainly masterpieces that demonstrate Kay Nielsen's imagination and skill.
