Description:
California:: Cheri Gaulke.. Edition of 100. A pouch made of multi-colored Balinese sarongs contains an artists' book whose design is inspired by traditional palm-leaf books. Indonesian teak covers are held together by a central red cord and batiked wooden beads. Digitally printed on an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 with archival inks and Epson watercolor paper in an edition of 100. Each pouch is unique as each has its own batik design and cloth. Each book is signed and numbered. A true story. One lesbian trying to get pregnant; one gay man dying of AIDS. Life; death. The struggle to make life; the struggle to hold on to life. The ironies compound and cancel each other, until what is left are the dignity of struggle and sanctity of possibility. "Mark began dying of AIDS long before I began trying to conceive, both of us racing against the inevitability of time" begins the text, which tells the story of a journey between birth and death and of a magical trip to Bali. The imagery… Read More

Paris, J. Sevin, n.d. (1893). Oblong (11 x 27 cm). 12 plates, printed on the recto only. Printed wrapprs with staples. (staples a bit rusted, wrappers a bit damaged and waterstained but interior fine). The printed cover serves as a titlepage. A very scarce late nineteenth century lettering book for the use of painters, architects etc. On the inside front cover the publisher explains that this booklet distinguished itself from other by the simplicity of the letters used as examples. Most of the plates attribute the letters used to Deberny & Cie. I have only found one library holding this (BNF) who date it 1893.

Signed and numbered by the artist. Lise Melhorn-Boe: "I have wanted to make a book with sewing patterns for many years, so was delighted to discover Alexandra Cussons's poem, used with her permission. The poem describes the creation of a woman, who then destroys the pattern to maintain her uniqueness. Cussons is a British poet who won the Poetry Society's Foyle Young Poet of the Year Award in 2011 for this poem. The text of the poem is layered with pattern pieces, hand-illustrated sewing instructions, photos of the body parts and the final figure." The artist has mingled the three verses of the poem with pattern pieces and assembly instructions. She has also included images of each of the sewn pieces and then the final sewing project.

From the blurb to Part One: "This volume, Part One of Early Gothic Manuscripts, covers the period from 1190 to 1250, up to the middle years of Henry III's reign - that is from the Great Canterbury Psalter to the famous Chronicles of Matthew Paris. The 94 manuscripts catalogued here show the range and variety of English miniature painting in the full flowering of the early 13th century. Austin: Texas Writers Project, 2000. Original . Broadside. FINE. 24 x 36 inches, printed on high quality coated stock with metalic ink. Shipped- rolled in heavy tube. This fabulous poster was created especially for the featured author of Texas Writers Month in 2000 held in Austin, Texas by graphic designer Marc English. It is printed on heavy high quality coated stock in metalic inks: silver and bronze and laid over a duotone photograph of the rugged Big Bend country of West Texas. The poster quotes a long scene from McCarthy's BLOOD MERIDIAN with drops of bronze red blood for emphasis. This is a stunning visual and carries the impact of the original text depicting a scene of horror as the savages line up on horseback along the ridge their glass beads and painted bodies caught forever in the sun's hot glare as they anticipate the massacre that would follow. Only McCarthy could make this scene so vivid you might have to put the book down and never finish it.
