New York: Avon (no number) No date (1941). The 5th Avon pocket-size title. Dr. Priestley gets involved when a drunken man is charged with manslaughter after a dead body is found in his car. Ludicrously, he was under the impression that he was transporting a stone bust to a friend's house. Funny how a sufficient amount of alcohol can alter reality in such a delightful fashion (well, it wasn't delightful for the dead-guy-he-thought-was-a-stone-bust, though). 278 pages + one-page biography + three pages of advertisements promoting other Avon titles, illustrated end papers. Edgewear, laminate lifting around edges, a small bit of chipping to spine ends, tanning, insect hole to bottom fore-edge (reaches 3/8" in, but does not affect text), a couple of short tears to page edges.. 1st Avon edition. Paperback. Good to Very Good. Sextodecimo -- from 5.75" to 6.75".
