A work discussing the Letter of Aristeas, examining historical and biblical context. The Letter of Aristeas was written in the 2nd century BCE, discussing the origin and reason for the Greek interpretation of Hebrew Law (the Septuagint)[see Wikipedia). Anton Van Dale was a Dutch scholar of Latin and other classical languages, as well as a Mennonite preacher (Global Anabaptist Mennonite Encyclopedia Online). FAIR condition, ex-theological library. Spine label and minor interior stamping/markings present. Former owner's Bookplate on the inside front cover. Front cover and first endpaper DETACHED but present. Moderate uneven fading and darkening to the covers. Some scuffing and minor soiling. Leather chipped along the extremities. Text block solid with scattered foxing and toning throughout.
