(London): Enitharmon Editions, 2002. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Bevan, Tony. No. 33 of 75 copies of the deluxe edition, folio size, 53 pp., signed by Harold Pinter and Tony Bevan, with original etching signed and numbered by Bevan, with prospectus. Harold Pinter (1930-2008) was known not only as an author, but also as a playwright, screenwriter, director and actor, and over his lifetime he received over fifty awards, prizes, and other honours, including the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2005 and the French Legion d'honneur in 2007. The artwork of Tony Bevan RA (b. 1951) has been exhibited around the world; his art attempts to "represent an internal or psychological reality by finding visual equivalents to a subject's state of mind" (n. b., above information from Wikipedia).
___DESCRIPTION: Full rust-coloured cloth, image inset on the front cover, white paper spine label with black lettering, fore- and bottom edges uncut, one illustration preceding the half-title, frontispiece a colour reproduction of a painting by Harold Pinter, tipped-in, title page in black and rust, twelve images total reproducing paintings by Tony Bevan made between 1986 and 2002 bound into the text with all images tipped onto the paper; type Hunt Roman, designed and printed by the Rampant Lions Press, paper Arches Velin, folio size (12.75" by 9.25"), pagination: [1-8] 9-50 [51] [1 colophon], limited edition, this no. 33 of 75 copies (plus 20 HC) of the deluxe edition (total edition of 240), signed by both Harold Pinter and Tony Bevan on the colophon. The separate signed/numbered print by Tony Bevan is titled "Violet Interior", numbered 33 of 75, signed by Tony Bevan with the date of "02"; it is enclosed in a wallet of rust-coloured laid paper cardstock. With the prospectus, one sheet printed in orange and black, and a letter to a prior owner from the publisher, signed by Stephen Stuart-Smith of the Enitharmon Press. All housed in a publisher's slipcase covered with rust cloth matching the book, paper label inset on the front with black lettering and a single rust decorative rule.
___CONDITION: Fine, with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, perfectly straight corners with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings. The wallet with the signed print are both also fine, with no creases or edge wear. The prospectus and letter are fine, clean and without wear, each with an indentation from a paperclip on the top edge. The slipcase is fine, strong and sturdy, with one very light stray mark near the label on the front, else fine.
