Kashgar: Swedish Mission Press, 1922. Bound in local multi-coloured Ikat cloth. No. 72 of an unspecified limitation, "For private circulation only." Inscribed on the Presentation page: "To Gertrude Buchan from HIH". Pp. [Presentation leaf], Title-page with limitation, Table of Contents, [3]-80; folding route map 41.5 cm x 20.5 cm, bound "in a stuff of which clothes are made in Central Asia and it is the first book, if I may be forgiven for calling it a book, to be published in this part of the world in any European language." - from the presentation page. Endpages browned, first blank loose, otherwise interior very good. The fabric over the spine is lacking, otherwise a very good, tight copy overall. Harold Ivan Harding was born in Toronto 29 January 1883 and died at age 60 on 29 December 1943 at Te Puhapa, Mamáo, Tahiti. Entered British Consular Service in China in 1902 and served in various capacities until 1922 when he became Vice-Consul at Kashgar. His mother's family [Grace Elizabeth Lesslie], were related to the distinguished early Toronto booksellers Lesslie & Sons, York (Toronto), Dundas & Kingston (See Hulse). There is a substantial archive of Lesslie family papers in the Dundas (Ontario) Museum and Archives. Quite scarce. . Inscribed. Hard Cover. Octavo.

William Wilson (1772-1849) inherited a substantial sum from an uncle, and decided to indulge his passion for travel. He travelled throughout Europe and The Middle East and wrote a series of books. This was his first, and it was the most popular, going through several editions. This is a good copy as all plates, including the frontispiece, have been excised. The boards show moderate wear, heavier at the spine ends. The front hinge is cracked. The text block is mainly clean with a few marks of unknown origin.

This book is an antique but it is in poor condition. The binding is loose and peeling off the spine of this book. The cover is worn substantially on the edged, corners and all over. The previous owners name is written on the inside front board and the front end page. The inside pages are yellowed and tanned and the page is torn. Wear to bottom and top of spine. Gilded lettering and design is intact, design on spine is worn towards the bottom however. Corners show bumping and wear, only slightly worn through.
