1882. Book. Illus. by Burr, Alfred. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First edition, Printing House of A. G. Walling 1882. 447 pages plus index and 66 page Biographical Supplement. Good brown tooled boards with complete gilt lettering and landscape scene. Leather spine has complete label but most of the leather is worn and rubbed away. Binding of this large heavy book is surprisingly solid although some mild cracking. No writings. Chipping to spine heel. All plates present and in very good or better condition, containing well over one hundred illustrations. Important historical and genealogical reference. The author Gilbert was a resident of Walla Walla, Washington and a noted historian. Illustrated by Alfred Burr whose sketches depict properties and landscapes of Walla Walla County. The author's intent was to provide "a glimpse of the Coast from its discovery; of California until Oregon ceased to be a part of it; of Oregon while Washington Territory was within her boundary limits; of the latter from its creation until Walla Walla, Columbia, Whitman, and Garfield had been born into the sisterhood of counties." Scarce, particularly so in the original binding..
