New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1925. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Hardcover, no dust jacket. Stated first edition on copyright page. Red cloth boards with black text on spine. Very minor corner bumping and edge bumps noted. No handwriting or bookplates in book. Binding good, no torn or loose pages. Mild foxing spots noted, mainly on front end page and pastedown. Condition graded as very good plus. See photos.

The actual driving of deer which this book relates was pretty much a fiasco; but the fact the Forest Service even tried to round up deer and drive them like cattle is historical fact little known today. The reason for this attempt was: The deer were starving due to over population caused by the eradication of natural predators, and the "need" of some ranchers who wanted more government grazing land. Thad Eburne, the story's hero, speaking for Zane Grey as an advocate of conservation, a protector of nature and wildlife, and who hates the job he has been forced to do, just because of the ranchers, tries with all his energy to make the drive successful. Also, in the cast is Patricia Edgerton, a world famous model who has tired of her sophisticated life and seeks a change. She comes to the Grand Canyon and is awed by the magnificence of nature, and decides to stay for the summer visiting the other natural wonders of the area--The Petrified Forest, Monument Valley, and the like. She is seeking a new life, tired of the decadent lifestyle, and seeking value and worth in life. This theme Zane Grey used effectively in many other of his heroines--Carly Birch, Call of the Canyon; Madeline Hammond, The Light of Western Stars; etal. This is a well crafted book, well thought out and easily brings out the message Zane Grey intended.

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. Non-US sales will ship by First Class International or Global Priority. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 4 lbs.
We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. All orders, even those shipped by US Media Mail, will be given a USPS tracking number which will be sent to the buyer so they will know when to expect arrival. Please let us know if there is a book with incorrect or missing photos. We recently moved the inventory to Biblio and a title or two may have had issues with the photos being transferred over.
Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. The software spells words by phonetics and can make errors that I may not catch.

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.
