George Edward Woodberry (1855-1930) was an American literary critic and poet whose work included scholarly biographies of Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne. He traveled to Castrogiovanni before it reverted to its ancient name of Enna in 1927 at the direction of Mussolini. It sits at an elevation of 3,000+ feet in the center of Sicily and is an important archaeological center. It figures in classical mythology as the location where the goddess Prosperine (aka Persephone), the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, was abducted by Hades (Pluto) and taken to the underworld.
