London: Geoffrey Bles, 1925. Small Quarto. Unopened. 199(1) pp. signed by the illustrator John Austen on the half-title, Translated out of the Greek of Longus by George Thornley in 1657. Beautifully illustrated throughout in color and in black and white. This considered the first pastoral prose romance. The story of two foundlings who are brought up by shepherds and who fall in love at an early age. Bound in cream cloth stamped in gilt, covers soiled, spine darkened, corners bumped, closed marginal tear to page 55. A good copy.
