About This Item

N.p.: N.p., 1981. Seventh Revised Version Draft script for a circa mid-1970s production of the 1967 musical, with a "Peter John Bailey Productions ... New York" stamp and an annotation of copy number 18 on the front wrapper. Two pages, 100 and 101, with intentional text deletion, indicated with affixed blank labels, and five duplicated pages of dialog bound in between pages 100 and 101.

Based on Bradbury's 1957 novel, composer William Goldenberg and lyricist Larry Alexander conceived of a musical adaptation in 1967, which was met with enthusiastic approval by Bradbury, who helped develop the show. Originally performed for several performances in April 1967 as part of the Lincoln Center Workshop, Bradbury continued to adjust and amend the musical with new lyrics and score over the next two decades, including a 1988 version scored by composer Jimmy Webb. Goldenberg and Alexander would withdraw their score from a 1981 Los Angeles production after Bradbury refused to consider re-examining the musical book following criticism from Broadway producer Stuart Ostrow.

Bradbury's classic nostalgic reverie of life in the fictional small American town of Green Town, Illinois in 1928, which was based upon Bradbury's childhood home and experiences in Waukegan, Illinois.

Synopsis

Dandelion Wine is a 1957 semi-autobiographical novel by Ray Bradbury, taking place in the summer of 1928 in the fictional town of Green Town, Illinois — a pseudonym for Bradbury's childhood home of Waukegan, Illinois. The novel developed from the short story "Dandelion Wine" which appeared in the June 1953 issue of Gourmet magazine. The title refers to a wine made with dandelion petals and other ingredients, commonly citrus fruit.
