Noted Egyptologist Sir John Gardner Wilkinson (1797-1875) travelled widely in his life, one trip to the Balkan Peninsula producing this compendious set which contained much significant material, such as documentation of regional costume and a description of the Paulician heresy. (ODNB). A Very Good+, three quarter leather binding, marbled boards, gilt lettering on spine, TEG with blemishes, illustrated with 7 lithographs (2 folding, one of which is split but present) and 7 woodcut plates and numerous in-text images; 2 folding tables and 1 large folding map, copy lacking the half-title in first volume, some rubbing along board edges and joint, age toning to pages, some discoloration to leather spines, some discoloration/age spotting to front and back matters, fold-out frontis-illustration Volume 1 is torn at crease but taped together near hinge, few small dog-eared pages, binding intact with slightly starting hinges, some handling/scuffing to boards. A nice, clean and unmarked set. Thick 8vo[octavo or approx. 6 x 9 inches]. 252pp., color and b&w illustrations. We pack securely and ship daily with delivery confirmation on every book.
