About This Item

NY, NY: Grossman Publishers, 1964. 238 pp., tan cloth w/ black, yellow & red lettering; Dust jacket in clear archival cover; Book is somewhat cocked w/ light bumping to corners of boards; some soil & foxing to fore & bottom edges of page block; prev. owner's comments & underlining to about 9 pages, some very light, some heavy & more extensive; crease to one leaf; Jacket shows light edgewear w/ heavier wear, chipping & short tears to ends of spine & folds; some wear & color flaking along folds w/ a number of small nicks & scratches overall / Even though they were in pencil, I decided to leave the previous owner's markings and comments for the possible interest of the next owner. Also, some of the marking were done heavily and would leave behind impressions in the pages. "'Dallas Public and Private' is not the story of an assassination; it is the story of a city - a city that did not trust itself to receive the President of the United States - and whose worst fears were far outstripped by a double murder that shocked the whole civilized world - a city where political discussion is a matter of agreement or silence - a city where integration was achieved without incident, but where Adlai Stevenson was struck and mobbed by picketers - a city with a high incidence of political violence, accomplished almost entirely by amateurs - a city that calls itself 'the Athens of the alfalfa fields' but that bars David Oistrakh from its concert halls because of his nationality." /. Signed by Author on Half-Title Page. 1st Printing. Hard Cover. Good/Good +. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

About High Castle Books

Hi! My name is Leigh Holleschau, proprietor of High Castle Books. We are located in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, about five miles from the Mexican border. The best-known city which people commonly associate with the area is Brownsville. Our address is 2431 Camino Real Viejo, Mercedes, TX 78579-9486. If you wish to contact us by phone at 956-565-2822, we are usually available between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Central Time. E-mail: HCBooks@rgv.rr.com Rather than divide our stock up into seemingly endless categories, I have coded each item with multiple keywords. This way you can create your own categories. The best way to do this is to use the 'search inventory' function on this page, rather than the 'browse' function, since 'search' accepts not only keywords, but author, title, publisher and other information. For example you could enter the keyword 'mystery' to see all mysteries in stock, and you could further refine your search by selecting the 'first edition' option as well, thereby displaying only first edition mysteries, etc.
