About This Item
Overall design by Jaroslav Hošek, with a striking wrapper design printed in black and orange, incorporating isotype-style graphics and modern typography. Throughout, the book uses only lower case letters and deliberately eschews established orthographic rules, in an attempt to approximate a more phonetically authentic writing style.
The ISAV (or ISAW) publishing house was associated with the International Socialist Association of Woodcrafters (Internacionálnà socialistická asociace woodcrafterů), a leftist youth movement close to the "tramping" movement, which was an alternative to scouting. It published the journal "Slunce" (Sun) and unsuccessfully sought to establish connections with the Czechoslovak Communist Party. Later, ISAV also came to mean "Internacia socialista asocio vivo", after the publishers became interested in Esperanto. The movement and publishing venture ended in 1938.
As of July 2023, KVK and OCLC show only one copy outside the Czech Republic, at SLUB Dresden.
