About This Item
New York: Boni and Liveright, 1919. First edition of Twain's classic collection of humorous sketches. Octavo, original half cloth over paper-covered boards. In near fine condition. Period ownership inscription. "Apparently unironic and wisely unsigned, [Twain's The Curious Republic of Gondour] modestly proposed a change in the suffrage laws... the essay argued, in essence, that universal suffrage was fine - but why not allot bonus voting privileges on an escalating scale based on extent of education and property holding" (Powers, Mark Twain: A Life, 378).
