About This Item
New York, NY Doubleday Page, 1909. Hardcover First Ed, so stated. First Ed, so stated [FIRST STATE with 'The' omitted at front panel and back strip]. Good: Shows significant indications of use: The back strip shows very light sunning, and the titles thereon have been severely rubbed, to the point that they are only legible because the embossing in which the white titles were set is still legible. The top edge is dusted. Else minor wear to the extremities; mild rubbing and very faint soiling. Binding shows slight lean, but remains secure; text clean. Overall, remains a sturdy, tightly bound copy with a clean text. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. xx/341pp. Tissue-guard frontispiece. Red-ribbed cloth-covered boards. Laid paper. Hardback: No DJ 'as issued'. Robert Etheridge Townsend, a young writer, recounts his twelve amatory encounters on his path to a conventional life style. Within his tales, he left an account of the behaviors of members of a relic: a leisure class in which ancestry, snobbery and pride of place were kept alive by infusions of wealth acquired through marriages of convenience.
