Philadelphia: Printed by James Kay, Jun. & Brother, 1837. Near Fine. [1], 320-341, [1] p.; 29 cm. Disbound from a larger volume. Read before the Society on May 5, 1835. William B. Rogers (1804-1882) was an American geologist and founder of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His brother Henry D. Rogers (1808-1866) was also an American geologist; he taught geology at the University of Pennsylvania. While William B. Rogers was teaching at William and Mary College he conducted a series of geological surveys of Virginia. This report consists of: I. Geology of a Portion of the Peninsula between the James and York Rivers -- II. Description of Some New Miocene Fossil Shells -- III. Of the Place in the Geological Series to which These Deposits Belong -- IV. Of the Origin of the Deposit Overlying the Miocene Shell Marl -- V. Eocene Formation of Virginia -- VI. New Fossil Shells of the Eocene of Virginia. In Near Fine Condition: disbound from a larger volume; clean and bright.
